UPROAR: The Pole Collective’s Photo Shoot with Sherman Orendorf

On Sunday October 4,2015 the ladies of up the dynamic group UPROAR geared up to take group and individuals photos in the city of west lafayette on Purdue’s campus. This added urban scenery along with a skyscraper appeal on top of one of Purdue’s parking garages.

The photoshoot was shot by none other than the seasoned and experienced photographer Sherman Orendorf. His presence was well received with much pleasure by ladies of uproar. Sherman was able to capture the movement, high energy and dynamic posing of all on the ladies on the pole. Sherman truly captured the artform expression of pole that UPROAR is known for. The mission as stated on the UPROAR page is “to bring awareness to the art of pole and help to destigmatize it as a genre of dance so that it may continue to empower people everywhere. We wish to bring it out of its competitive form and further it as an artistic medium.” UPROAR has a variety of dance styles that is incorporated such as jazz, ballet, contemporary, and hip-hop just to name a few. Some of these styles were evident in the individual photos that helped convey one’s story and background in dance.

There were many photos taken, some of which were intricate tricks that seemed to actually frighten some of the West Lafayette community. The photo shoot was temporarily interrupted by the Purdue Police who said community members who were below the garage were scared for the safety of the ladies. After UPROAR assured that their was no safety issues present, the photoshoot resumed. Here are two of the images released from the shoot. More to come!
